DSWD-6 releases cash gifts to 33 centenarians as part of Elderly Filipino Week celebration.
A total of 33 Centenarians received their cash gift amounting to P100,000 each on Friday, October 5.
The cash gift was released to the centenarians and their folks by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI.
When asked, one Centenarian said, “I will use this to buy medicines and vitamins.” Another said, “I will give some to my grandchildren.”
DSWD Assistant Regional Director for Administration Evangeline B. Felecio led the distribution of the cash gift.
Felecio, in her message, called on the families to spend the money for the health and nutrition of the recipients.
Also present were Rosario Sanagustin, head of the Protective Services Division and Judith Tanate-Barredo who is the focal person of the program.
Under Republic Act 10868 (Centenarians Act of 2016) Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrator for his or her longevity and a cash gift of P100,000.
The activity was one of the highlights of the annual Elderly Filipino Week (Oct. 1 to 7), the first Sunday of October is being observed as National Respect for Centenarians Day. (PR from DSWD-6)
