It’s official! Department of Education (DepEd) will conduct the 2018 Alternative Learning System Accreditation and Equivalency (ALS A&E) Test this first quarter of 2019. Check out the schedule and requirements below.
ALS program is a parallel learning system in the Philippines under DepEd that provides option for those who cannot attend and finish formal basic education. The program gives out-of-school children, youth and adults population with basic education that fits their distinct situations and needs.
Formerly known as the Non-formal Education Test, A&E Exam is a paper and pencil test designed to measure the competencies of those who have neither attended nor finished elementary or secondary education in the formal school system.
Passers of the A&E Test are given a certificate/diploma, bearing the Department of Education (DepEd) seal and the signature of the Secretary, certifying their competencies as comparable graduates of the formal school system.
The ALS A&E Test this 2019 is significant, as it will be the last time that passers of the exam can go directly to college, based on DepEd Order No. 27 series of 2018 (READ: DepEd ALS passers eligible for college.)
Schedule
Based on Memorandum No. 006 series of 2019, the 2018 DepEd ALS A&E Test will be on February 24, 2019 for Luzon takers, and March 3, 2019 for Visayas and Mindanao. Applicants may register at identified registration centers such as school division offices (SDO) and district offices (DO) of DepEd from January 3 to February 11, 2019.

Who Are Qualified to Take ALS A&E Test?
Based on DepEd Order No. 55 series of 2016 entitled Policy Guidelines on the National Assessment on Student Learning for the K to 12 Basic Education Program, the following may take the test:
1. learners in the ALS and other Non-formal Education Programs;
2. out of school youth and children who are prepared for the assessment; and
3. adults who are seeking Certification of Learning.
Applicants shall be at least 12 years old for the A&E Test Elementary Level and at least 16 years old for the A&E Junior High School Level on the examination day.
Registration Requirements
- For ALS Learners Only: Original and Photocopy of Certification of ALS Program Completion issued by Learning Facilitator;
- Original and Photocopy of Birth Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), formerly National Statistics Office (NSO);
- Two 1×1 or 2×2 identical ID photo (white background and nametag);
- If copy of Birth Certificate from the PSA/NSO not available, any of the following documents may be presented:
1. Baptismal Certificate
2. Voter’s ID (with picture, signature, date of birth)
3. Valid Passport
4. Valid Driver’s License, and
5. Any legal document bearing the applicant’s picture, name and signature (e.g. NBI Clearance, Police Clearance)
