The Department of Health (DOH) is now calling for applications for 2019 Doctors to the Barrios program.
To address the lack of doctors in rural communities in the Philippines, DOH has introduced the Doctors to the Barrios program in 1993. Since then, over 30 batches of doctors have been deployed to various geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in the Philippines to work in primary care and public health.
There are currently 215 doctors serving under the program, deployed everywhere from Batanes to Tawi-tawi.
