Amidst the heartbreaking stories about lost lives in the Iloilo Strait sea tragedy, a Guimarasnon gave us something to uplift our spirits: he returned a bag containing P660,000 cash.
Apollo ‘Poloy’ Gabrillo of Barangay Zaldivar, in the Municipality of Buenavista, Guimaras found a bag full of cash amounting to P660,000 in the afternoon of August 3, 2019.
Poloy did not give in to the temptation of just keeping the money; he immediately turned it over to the office of their barangay captain and later forwarded to the local government of Buenavista.
A Guimarasnon lawyer, Atty. Rommel Edang, posted Poloy’s great deed on Facebook:
“Did you know that in the afternoon of August 3, 2019, someone from Brgy. Zaldivar, Buenavista, Guimaras recovered a bag with Php 660,000.00 cash inside. The same was turned over to the Office of the Punong Barangay of Brgy. Zaldivar and eventually to the Buenavista LGU. Small acts of honesty that barely get noticed, but must be highlighted. His name is Apollo ‘Poloy’ Gabrillo. Honesty is alive and well!”
It was later learned that the bag full of money was hand-carried by one the passengers of M/B Chi-Chi, one of the pump boats which capsized in Iloilo-Guimaras Strait while on its way to Jordan wharf.
The passenger, who survived the tragedy and still recuperating in one of the hospitals, is working in a pawnshop and lost the bag in the during the sea mishap.
Great job Mr. Gabrillo for your exemplary honesty! Guimarasnons and Ilonggos all over the world are surely proud of you! (Photo via Rommel John Edang Facebook)
