Bright Ilonggo students from indigent families of Iloilo City may avail of free, quality college education at Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) starting school year 2018-2019. The qualifications and requirements are listed below.
Established in 2012, ICCC is the first Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-recognized local college in Western Visayas and a product of public-private partnership of Iloilo City Government and Ilonggo tycoon Edgar ‘Injap’ Sia III, who donated the green-colored Injap Foundation Building that houses the school at MH del Pilar and Tiolas streets, Brgy. Taal, Molo.
Starting this incoming academic year 2018-2019, students of ICCC will get free tuition and miscellaneous fees courtesy of the Republic Act 10931 Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017, which was recently signed into law by the Duterte administration.
“ICCC is the first school in Western Visayas that was given recognition by CHED for meeting the minimum requirements and the fifth community college in the country,” said administrator Mathilde Treñas.
The school is one of 78 local universities and colleges (LUCs) recently deemed eligible by CHED to give free tuition and other school fees.
Some 400 students are expected to benefit from this subsidy in the incoming school year, including 250 freshmen.
