CSC plans to shift to online Civil Service Exams

Civil Service Commission (CSC) announced that they are now planning to change the way Civil Service Exams are delivered as the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine measures continue to shut the testing centers around the country.

In a Laging Handa televised briefing on Wednesday, CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada said that they are now looking to shift from pen-and-paper test to online exams.

“We are one sa commission that we want to go online. We need to restructure our pen-and-paper test,” Lizada said.

“So that’s why we gave a directive to the examination recruitment and placement office ng CSC that we want to go online. In transition, hahanap po ng paraan (we will find a way) how to bridge the gap going to online.”

Career Service Examination – Paper and Pencil Test (CSE-PPT) are conducted twice every year, usually during March and August, but it was canceled this year due to COVID-19 threat. This has affected some 293,000 examinees who were supposed to take the CSE-PPT in 66 locations nationwide last March 15.

Aside from CSE-PPT, the Commission is also administering computer-based exam or COMEX but it is also administered in testing centers of the agency.

All the other PPTs scheduled for the rest of the year were also cancelled and reset to 2021.

In the latest report by the Department of Health, there are 326,833 COVID-19 cases with 5,856 deaths and 273,313 recoveries.

Civil Service Exam or CSE-PPT is a general ability test designed to measure an individual’s preparedness to enter government service. Passing the CSE would result in the conferment of either Professional or Subprofessional eligibility that is needed, among others, for permanent appointment to corresponding career service positions in the government except those that involve the practice of the profession or are covered by special laws.
